Poutine Tots

Have you ever traveled to Canada and had poutine? If you have, then you know it’s AMAZING! And if you haven’t, this will give you a taste of the French Canadian favorite with an American twist

Ready in 30 minutes – Serves 8

To make this recipe you’ll need:

For the tater tots:

  • 1 – 32oz bag of tater tots
  • 1 cup of cheese curds, room temperature
  • ¼ cup green onions, sliced for garnish

For gravy:

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 8 oz of chicken or beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Bake your tater tots according to the package directions. 

While the tater tots are baking, make the gravy by melting 2 tbsp of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour, continually whisking until all the flour has absorbed the butter. Slowly pour in 8 oz. of chicken or beef broth, salt, and pepper, whisking until smooth. Turn heat to medium low and cook for 10 minutes or until gravy thickens, stirring occasionally. Taste and add more salt and pepper if necessary.

Once the tots are cooked, ladle gravy over them, then sprinkle cheese curds on top. Place in oven and broil 2-3 minutes or until the cheese curds have melted. Garnish with sliced green onions. Enjoy!
